THE SEND BRAZIL: WHAT’S COMING NEXT?

The Send

I’m in Brazil at the moment, so I can give a perspective from Brazil and what God is doing here. But first how it all started.

On 23 Feb 2019 there was the big stadium event in Orlando, USA, led by Lou Engle, called THE SEND. Its aim was to stir up a national evangelistic and missions movement. Many well-known evangelists participated in the event. See The Send: What is it

But to the surprise of the organisers, 10% of the 60,000 that attended the event were Brazilians. Not only that but they turned up early in the morning before the start of the event and began to worship spontaneously in the streets! They had come early to get the best places in front of the stage!

So when one of the Brazilian leaders, Teo Hayashi (Dunamis Movement) had his turn to speak, there were all the Brazilians in front waving their Brazilian flags. He immediately deviated from his script and began to prophesy over them, “The hour has come for Brazil. You are a chosen nation. Let’s go Brazil. Now is your time” See the video The Send Brazil – The Story

So Lou Engle and the organisers decided that THE SEND would come to Brazil next for the next stadium event in Feb 2020. The Brazilian organisers thought they would fill just one stadium in Sao Paulo, but there has been so much demand that they have easily filled 3 stadiums and have a huge waiting list! So what’s going on with THE SEND BRAZIL?

1.It’s on the back of a move of God in Brazil

Brazil has experienced huge evangelical growth, especially in the 1990s and early 2000s. It’s not been revival , in the sense that there has been huge changes in society, but none-the-less a move of God. Official statistics put evangelicals at 26% of the population, that is roughly 50 million believers!

2.Brazil has a strong missionary call

This has been recognised by Lou Engle and the other THE SEND BRAZIL organisers. Engle says that he believes Brazil is poised to be one of the greatest if not the greatest sending nation in history. It certainly has the potential because of the number of believers but at the moment it’s very far off this. Of the 50 million evangelical believers, only 5000 are missionaries outside Brazil. That is it’s taking 10,000 believers to send just one missionary.

3.The Send Brazil is designed to stir up a missionary movement

The day will be packed with messages and prayer designed to call the Brazilians to participate in missions. I spoke to one of the Brazilian organisers and he is well aware that the challenge is to disciple those that respond after the event in missions. The idea is to funnel those that respond at the Send Brazil into missions training and discipleship opportunities.

4.There are signs of a fresh move of God in Brazil

In the past, there was a missions movement. For example, YWAM DTS courses were receiving 50+ students. This has declined in recent years due to a focus of the Brazilian Church on itself. However, recently there has been a growing interest in missions again. So the well-known missions course, Perspectives, started in Brazil in 2008 and grew slowly until 2015 when there were 20 courses running in Brazil. Now in 2019 there are 60 courses running, a big increase.

For more information see my book GRACE OUTPOURINGS: 21 DAYS REVIVAL DEVOTIONAL for a great devotional on how to prepare and get ready for this global missionary movement.

So watch this space. Pray that THE SEND BRAZIL will be very powerful and truly generate a missions movement in Brazil. Pray also for those that respond that they will be discipled well.
