REVIVAL GIVING: 3 REASONS TO GIVE MORE

During revivals believers give with an abandon. We see this in the Early Church:

“There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.”  (Acts 4:34-35)

Revival fills the hearts of believers with great love, such that they want to give!

A missionary told me about what she saw in a revival in North Borneo in the 1970s. For decades her church had talked about building a missions training centre but it never happened because of lack of money. After the revival began in their community, the missions centre was funded and built quickly. Why? Because revival released the love of God in the hearts of the people and they now gave without inhibition.

Let’s practice revival giving now!

In Philippians, Paul thanks the church for their support and then gives three reasons to give more generously and freely to those in need and who preach the Gospel:

1.It’s credited to our accounts! (Phil 4:17)

“Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account.”

God remembers our gifts and will reward us one day. So this is a huge reason to give more to those in need and to kingdom projects!!

This is also another reason to not stop others giving because in doing so we are perhaps robbing them of God’s reward for them one day!

2.Giving greatly pleases God (Phil 4:18)

“They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.”

Giving is described like an Old Testament offering, rising up before His throne and pleasing to Him.

3.God will meet all our needs (Phil 4:19)

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

We don’t need to worry about our needs or that in giving we will suffer, because God promises that He will meet all our needs. So this frees us to give freely and even self-sacrificially!

Don’t wait for revival!

Revivals show us how to really live the Gospel. So let’s not wait for one in order to practice “revival giving”, but let’s learn to give with love and with all our hearts, so that others will be blessed and so that the kingdom will explode with growth.
