Today on 20-5-22 the Telegraph newspaper said that there are only 10 weeks stocks of wheat worldwide left, which could lead to a global shortage of food.
I believe that God is using such circumstances to reveal that He is the Father, the very thing Jesus came to show and the reason he died on the cross:
“I am the way, and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me” (Jn 14:6)
Recently God spoke to me through the story of 1 Kings 17-18.
Here God told Elijah that there would be a national famine for 3 years. But it created some interesting results:
1.Supernatural provision
God sent Elijah to a widow and her son for the 3 years. The widow was getting ready to make one more meal and then die, as they no more food left. However, Elijah prophesied that the jar of flour and the jug of oil wouldn’t run out but would sustain them all for the 3 years.
We can except our amazing Father to provide for all our needs by natural means or by supernatural provision during such difficult times.
2.Proof of the Fatherhood of God
The famine in Elijah’s time led to opportunities to prove the fatherhood of God through such supernatural provision or otherwise.
So God used Obadiah to feed hundred prophets through natural means but through oil and flour supernaturally for the widow and Elijah.
Hence it really doesn’t matter that prices will go up much more in the future, because we can trust our Heavenly Father to provide for us.
3.Honour for the Father
The famine led to a huge opportunity to honour the Lord and prove Him, with the answer by fire test of who is God. Elijah gathered all the Israelites together and challenged the prophets of Baal to a competition to see who would send fire to burn up their offering, Baal or God. Only God answered by fire proving He alone is God. Thus will turn many hearts to Him, as it did in Elijah’s time.
When there is famine, all other idols will be proved to be powerless and the Lord will reveal Himself as the only God through His supernatural provision at such time.
What now?
So at this difficult time in the world we can pray for these 3 God opportunities: to see supernatural provision, to know the fatherhood of God and to prove and honour Him as the only Lord.
