The Chile Revival began at a traditional Methodist Church in Valparaiso, Chile, in 1909, that had no pentecostal churchesbut became the first pentecostal church. This revival led to a revival movement that has grown to 2 million pentecostals in Chile today.
1.Started with a thirsty pastor and his wife
Willis and Mary Hoover were traditional Methodist pastors but with a great thirst for more.
In 1907 Minnie Abrams, a friend of Mary Hoover, and a missionary in India, sent Mary her book about a revival there that spread to 100 places in the country! Then there was more correspondence between the Hoovers and Abrams. This sparked a greater hunger for more.
2. The whole church read Acts for a year
In 1902 the entire church studied Acts of the Bible. As a result the church grew by 100 people and some members sought God more and received the touch of the Holy Spirit.
3.God allowed the destruction of their church building in 1906
In 1906 an earthquake destroyed the church. But Willis realised it was from God because as a result members now needed to meet in their local areas all over the city in smaller groups. So the exhorters and preachers began to preach more and raise up others to preach as well. This prepared for the revival in 1909.
4.The Chile Revival started because of daily prayer
On Jan 14, 1909 a church member had a dream about prayer every day and he told Pastor Hoover. Hoover obeyed, as in Acts 1:14, but the daily prayer started with only five peopleinitially!
The Chile Revival began in April 1909 and the Pastor began all-day services every day!
5.The Chile Revival spread due to a loss of fear in preaching the Gospel
When it happened the new preachers raised up in the area congregations were ready and began to preach on the streets and around the city without fear, spreading the revival. This then spread to other cities through people travelling.
